New findings at Gargaon, Assam





Gargaon is a historical place located in Sivasagar district of Assam, India. Its geographical location is 26° 55' 17" North, 94° 45' 50" East. Once the capital of the famous Ahom Kingdom, Gargaon is known for its architectural wonders the most famous of which is the Kareng Ghar, the royal palace of the Ahom Kings. Built by King Suklengmong in 1539 A.D. Gargaon remained as an important centre of the Ahom Kingdom till the end of Ahom rule. Recently few articles have been reported from agricultural fields. According to historian Mr. Dilip Kumar Buragohain these are part of Ahom ‘Bor Sora’, the royal throne.
